It took me a lot of courage to write this post. I mean, no businessman in their right mind would try to dissuade people from buying their product, right? The thing is, I am an engineer and artisan by trade first, and I always have been a rather terrible businessman to begin with…
I believe that it is better for everyone if nobody gets unrealistic expectations. I prefer missing a sale in the first place if it spares me having to deal with a disappointed customer, and possibly product returns from overseas down the line. This all consumes time, energy and money, on top of being rather demoralizing.
So let me try to set things straight about what Ubik is not!
Ubik is not a one-hitter-quitter
Ubik is for flavor chasers foremost, and is meant to enjoy your flowers over the course of multiple hits. And what makes it easy to use and control despite being unregulated, namely the gentle temperature rise curve and the calibrated heater lag, also means in counterpart that you need to give it enough time. If you want to extract as fast as possible in the least amount of hits, look elsewhere.
If you only enjoy lung-busting elephant rips on big water-pieces, then I am afraid Ubik is not for you. There are better alternatives like ball-vapes, and a desktop unit would likely be a much better fit. Ubik is a portable vape, do not expect desktop-level power from it, even if it outputs quite a lot of Watts.
Ubik is not for concentrates
Ubik is designed for legal dry herbs only. Concentrates and other resins could drip on the heater screen or worse the heater itself and this would not be covered by warranty.
You could likely find workarounds like using the device upside-down, or making sandwiches with hemp fibers or cotton, but this is really not the primary use case and it would be entirely at your own risk.
Again, there are better suited vapes out there designed specifically for these applications.
Ubik is not a piece of art
While I do my best to create them as flawless as possible, Ubiks are handcrafted and made of wood, they are by definition not perfect and wood is subject to seasonal changes due to varying ambient air humidity.
Even if they start with seamless junctions between body and door and between body and bottom plate, dimensional variations may happen to some extent, and it is possible that during some periods of the year, what used to be perfectly flush and aligned might become temporarily a few tenth of a millimeter off. This is completely normal and to be expected.
I am not making pieces of art, they are above all functional vapes and wear and tear over time is inevitable. I want them to be used daily and not sit on a display shelf untouched.
Ubik is not manufactured
I am a one man operation. Ubik is not mass-produced, it is handcrafted, there is no factory involved in their machining and assembly. It is just me all alone.
I also reside in Paris where the cost of living is very high. My company is registered in France, one of the countries with the highest tax rates in the world.
Ubik is a premium product, it takes a lot of effort and time to produce, so it is not a cheap vape. There are much more affordable alternatives coming from Asian factories and companies with larger teams.
I hope you now have a clearer view of Ubik strengths as well as its limitations and what to expect from it or not.
